Anisole is produced by - (b) C₆H₅OH; NaOH ; CH₃I

The reaction is known as Williamson's synthesis. In this phenol reacts with sodium hydroxide or NaOH. Here dehydration occurs.

The product is sodium phenoxide with chemical formula C6H5ONa. Further the product is heated in presence of methyl iodide with chemical formula CH3I.

The products of this reaction are - sodium iodide and methyl phenyl ether also known as anisole. The chemical formula of the compound is NaI and C6H5OCH3 respectively.
