The correct option is (D) due to following reasons:-

- The law of multiple proportions states that two or more compounds are formed on the combination of two elements then the ratio of second element masses combines with the first element fixed mass that always results in small whole number ratio.

- In S2Cl2 the masses of S and Cl are 70 and 71 , in SCl2 the masses of S and Cl are 35 and 71 whereas in SCl4 the masses of S and Cl are 35 and 142.

- So, According to the statement of law by multiplying the compound SCl2 and SCl4 with 2 the mass of S in both becomes equal to fixed mass of first compound i.e 70 along with this the masses of Cl in both compound becomes 106.5 and 177.5 .

- So, The ratio of chloride in the three compound will be,

chloride of S2Cl2 : chloride of SCl2 : chloride of SCl4

= 71 : 106.5 : 177.5

= 2 : 4 : 5

- The ratio is in small whole number.

- So, the correct option is (D).
