Among the mechanical properties of solids , elasticity is an important property. Presence of stress on the body changes its configuration. Within the elastic limit , the strain is revocable. but beyond the limit , the material in the process of bringing strain, work is done by the source of stress. The stress may be tensile, normal or tangential stress. The stress - strain vibration exhibits a compression similar to the extensional vibration. More the extension caused for a material with a force of elasticity is less and vice- versa. 1)The work done in extending a wire by "l" from "L" due to a force applied on it is: (Y is the Young's Modulus of the material of the wire). a.1/2×Stress×Strain b.1/2×Y×Strain^2 c.1/2Y×Stress^2 d.
1/2Y×Stress^2 × Volume

Explanation:

Hooke’s Law

Hooke’s Law states that for small deformities, the stress and strain are proportional to each other. Thus,

Stress

Strain

Or, Stress = k × Strain … where k is the constant of proportionality and is the Modulus of Elasticity. It is important to note that Hooke’s Law is valid for most materials.
