Human beings are social animals and they love to live in close association of one another. But it is to be noted that a particular kind of person likes the association of his own kind, and not of other kinds. An honest person likes other honest persons. Similarly, a dishonest person likes other dishonest persons. They form network among themselves and keep close connection. Thieves or robbers may form gangs and conduct their sinister operations. The relationship among the miscreants is close-knit and they work in nexus with one another. That is why the proverb: 'Birds of a same feather flock together'. A crow flies with other crows as a kite with other kites. This may be observed in the behaviour of most other animals. Members of the same species live and move together. It is the pattern of social life. The pattern is found in small animals like ants and bees and in large animals like lions and elephants. In human society also we find the same thing. A smoker mixes with another smoker; a drunkard mixes with another drunkard. A corrupt official makes connection with other bribe takers. The smugglers have secret cooperation among themselves. This kind of association is also true for good fellows. An artist likes to keep another artist's company; a poet likes the company of a person who has got poetic sense. The 'flocking spirit' is universal. This spirit gives rise to different professional groups or associations. So we see the associations of lawyers, doctors, engineers, teachers and traders. Human beings highly value group identity. They love to belong to a group consisting of the members of the same category. There is another aspect of this grouping. The nature of a person may also be identified from the group he belongs to. That is why it is said that a person is known from the company he keeps.
