(a)

When the green coloured solution of iron sulphate in a beaker is reacted with few pieces of magnesium ribbon, then the ribbon gets darker and the solution turn to almost transparent. A displacement reaction takes place, because Magnesium being more reactive breaks the FeSO4 and displaces Iron which then forms a dark layer of magnesium sulphate.

The chemical reaction is

FeSO4 + Mg == MgSO4 + Fe
