An 800 ml mixture of syrup and water contains
25% syrup. How much syrup (in ml) should be
added to this mixture to increase syrup
concentration to 40%

Step-by-step explanation:

quantity of syrup in initial solution = 200 ml (.25*800)

quantity of water in initial solution = 600 ml (800-200)

ratio of syrup to water =1:3

new ratio required = 40:60 = 2:3

so if x amount of syrup  is added, the ratio should become 2:3

200+x = 2

600        3

hence by cross multiplying

600+ 3x= 1200

3x= 600, x= 200

Hence add 200 ml of syrup, the solution quantity becomes 1000ml. syrup concentration will be  200+200 = 400/1000= 40%
