Specific resistance by definition is the resistance of a unit length of a wire of the material, having the area of cross section of one unit. In cgs system of units the unit of length is centimetre and of area centimetre square. So specific resistance of a material is the resistance of the material between parallel faces of a unit cube. In MKS system of unit the unit of length would be metre and of area metre².

Specific resistance depends only on the material and neither on its area nor its length.
