Urdu language : The contribution of ordinary folk or the elite in the Mughal period. Urdu is actually a pre-Mughal cultural aspect of India, but continued with the Mughals.

(Persian was introduced by Mughals and other Turkish regimes, but it gave way to Urdu.)

Significant amount of literature in Persian/Urdu on Hindu religion, Indian culture, philosophy etc, by those connected with the court. The contribution was somewhat indirect. There must be similar contribution towards Islamic literature, but i have no idea. Many, many, many non-Indian Muslim elite found large opportunities to record what was new to them here.Mughals obviously like all Turko-Mongols, Persians, Central Asians (originally foreign by now mixed to become Indian) had better historiography which was somehow not common in India.Art of making paper flourished during Mughal rule, textiles too.Wajid Ali Shah of Lucknow, Dara Shikoh and scores of people belong to this group. Unfortunately i am not aware of all names, but these two are stalwarts. Though Wajid Ali Shah’s interest in participating in Hindu themed dramas etc, died with him.Classical music was directly encouraged by rulers, though i am not sure of the efforts, because music exists by needed royal patronage. What is called Sufi music and may include a couple of genres may be the contribution of grass root level elite, again another indirect contribution.Mughals should be credited to have tried administrative unity in India before the British. This was the first attempt after Chandragupta Maurya, though this was unavoidably aided by war and conflict, it is a significant.Mughals must have built some shrines for Muslims saints. In some cases Hindu saints too received patronage as per records.Architecture. Very very major contribution.Certain public utility systems like water supply, no doubt not all can survive time. Some contrition to highways just like were built by Sher Shah Suri earlier.
