Step-by-step explanation:

so let earnings be = x

and he multiplied it with = 1/4 × x = x/4

and should be multiplied by = 2/3 ×x = 2x/3

and their difference

= 2x/3 - x/4 = 8x-3x/12

= 5x/12

now to find percentage change

(5x/12)/(2x/3) × 100

= 62.5% answer

Therefore the error in his calculation is 62.5 %.

An accountant makes a circulation error. He multiplies earnings of the company with 1/4

instead of 2/3 to calculate the share of one of the partners.

We have to find the error in his calculation.

Let x be the earnings of company.

Error value found by accountant = x/4

But the accurate value should be = 2x/3

now, error in the calculation = (error value - accurate value)/accurate value × 100

= (x/4 - 2x/3)/(2x/3) × 100

= (3x - 8x)/(12 × 2x/3) × 100

= (-5x)/(8x) × 100

= -500/8

= -62.5 %

[ negative sign indicate error value is 62.5 % less of accurate value ]

Therefore the error in his calculation is 62.5 %.
