hydrogen and the rest is oxygen. Calcualte the molecualr formula of the
acid. can u explain

O = 61.55%
relative number of moles
of C = 34.6/12 = 2.88
of H = 3.85/1 = 3.85
of O = 61.55/16 = 3.84
sample ratio of moles
of C = 2.88/2.88 = 1
of H = 3.85/2.88 = 1.33 = 4/3
of O = 3.84/2.88 = 1.33 = 4/3
empirical formula = C3H4O4
n*empirical formula mass = molecular formula mass
n*104 = 104
n = 1
hence molecular formula = HOOC--CH2--COOH = C3H4O4
