Take a strip of Mg ribbon and clean it by rubbing sandpaper . Hold the strip of Mg ribbon with the help of tongs over a watch glass . Burn the Mg ribbon with the non luminous flame of Bunsen burner. Mg ribbon burns with a dazzling and white powder is collected on a watch glass kept below the flame. The white powder is Magnesium Oxide formed by the reaction of Mg and O present in air.

we will take a strip of Mg and hold it with the help of test tube holder and put it over the flame of bunsen burner.It burns with a dazzling white flame and will be converted into MgO which would be formed as a white product of the reaction
