(a) variegated leaf

(b) removed the starch present in the leaves by keeping the variegated leaves plant in a dark room or closed cup-board for about 48 hours.

(c) Chlorophyll is a green pigment and so masks the color change of the iodine test for starch. Chlorophyll needs to be removed from the leaf i.e. the leaf needs to be ' decolorized' for changes to be observed. Ethanol is an organic solvent and so extracts chlorophyll from the leaf.

(d) Never heat alcohol directly on a naked flame, you should take a beaker with boiled water in it.
