An aeroplane flying horizontally with a velocity of 540 kmph at a height 2940m dropped a body.Find the range of the body.

When the body is dropped, it will have an initial horizontal velocity which is equal to the speed of the aeroplane. So the body fall and travel forward too.

initial horizontal velocity,Vx=540km/h

Vx=540×5/18=150m/s

initial vertical velocity,Vy=0

h=2940

h=Vy×t+1/2gt^2

h=0+1/2×9.8×t^2

2940=4.9t^3

t^2=2940/4.9=600

t=√600=24.5

in 24.5sec the horizontal distance travelled is:-

D=S×T

D=Vx×t

D=150×24.5

D=3675
