Let the point of departure be A. Let the aeroplane towards the North be at N and the aeroplane towards the West be at E after 1 and half hours.
the distance AN = 1000 * 1.5 = 1500 km
the distance AW = 1200 * 1.5 = 1800 km
ANW is a right angle triangle. NW is the diagonal.
NW² = AN² + AW² = 1500² + 1800²
NW = 2, 343.075 km
