An air rifle pellet of mass 2g is fired into a block of modelling clay mounted
on a model railway truck. The truck and modelling clay have a mass of
0.1 kg. The truck moves off after the pellet hits the modelling clay with an initial velocity of 0.8 m/s. Calculate the momentum of the modelling clay and truck just after the
collision.

Answer:

By P = (M+m)v

=>P = (0.1+0.002) x 0.8

=>P = 8.16 x 10^-2 N-s

(2) Let the velocity of the pellet was u m/s before the collision,By the law of momentum conservation:-

=>m1u1+m2u2 = (m1+m2)v

=>0.002 x u + 0 = 8.16 x 10^-2

=>u = 40.80 m/s
