An aircraft travelling at 600 km/h accelerates steadily at 10 km/h per second. Taking the speed of sound as 1100 km/h at the aircraft's altitude,how long will it take to reach the sound barrier ???

Hey dear !!

Here is your answer !!

____________________________________________

♦♦ Given ->

Initial velocity - 600 km/h

Final velocity - 1100 km/h

Let us take u as initial velocity and v as final velocity.

Acceleration-10 km/h /s

♦♦ Solution ->

Now change km/h to m/s

Hence,

u=166.66 m/s

v=305.55 m/s

a=2.78 m/s*s=2.78 m/s^2

Using first equation of the motion which is

v=u+at

Put values in the equation

305.55=166.66+2.78(t)

t=(305.55-166.66)/2.78

t=138.89/2.78

t=13889*100/278*100

t=13889/278

t=49.9s

which is near value to 50s

Hence the time is 50 seconds to reach the sound barrier.

Hope it is satisfactory :-)
