let the formula of the alkane be CnH2n+2

Therefore we have

12n + 1(2n+2) = 86

12n +2n+2=86

14n = 84

n=6

i.e the formula of the given alkane is C6H14 !

following are its possible isomers :

n-hexane

2-methyl pentane

3-methyl pentane

2,2 dimethyl butane
