AN ALLOY OF NICKEL AND CHROMIUM IS USED AS A HEATING ELEMENT BECAUSE IT INCREASES THE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE AT HIGH TEMPERATURES AS WELL AS IT MAKES THE ALLOY CORROSION RESISTANT IN WATER.

MAY THIS HELP YOU.

Answer:

Main reasons are due to its high resistivity and it not getting oxidised very easily.

Explanation:

Alloy of nickel and chromium which is also known as nichrome have the following properties:

  1. It has very high resistivity.
  2. It is not easily oxidised.

Because of the following reasons it is used as the heating element.

Other reasons are because of its low manufacturing cost, high strength, high ductility, resistance to oxidation, stability at high temperatures and resistance to the flow of electrons, nichrome is widely used in electric heating elements in appliances.
