EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

an alpha particles enter a hollow tube of 4 m

length.

initial speed = 1 km/s.

it is accelerated in the tube and comes out of it

with a speed of 9 km/s.

Find the time for which it remains inside

the tube is.

According to the question,

Initial speed = u = 1 km/s = 1000 m/s

Final speed = v = 9 km/s = 9000 m/s

From Newton third equation of

kinematics.

=> v^2 = u^2 + 2as

=> ( 9000 )^2 = ( 1000 )^2 + 2 X a X 4

=> a = 10^7 m/s^2

From Newton first equation of

kinematics.

=> v = u + at

=> t = v - u / a

=> t = 9000 - 1000 / 10^7

=> t = 8 X 10^-4 seconds.

Therefore,

Time for which it remain inside

The tube = 8 X 10^-4 seconds.
