An aluminum ball and a gold ball are placed over mercury:-

we would see the following result:-

Either they will sink or float depending on their densities (As mercury is liquid at room temperature while the other two are solid). If the density of the ball is more than mercury, it will sink.

Answer:

Either they will sink or float depending on their densities (As mercury is liquid at room temperature while the other two are solid).

If the density of the ball is more than mercury, it will sink. Or if its less than mercury, it will float.

Density of mercury = 13.56 g/cc

Density of gold = 19.32 g/cc

Density of aluminum = 2.70 g/cc

So, Aluminum ball will float and the gold ball will sink.
