A galvanometer can be converted into an ammeter by connecting a low resistance, called shunt, in parallel to the galvanometer.

Shunt required is given by

S = igG/(i−ig)

ig = 1A
I = 10 A
G = 0.81 ohm

S = 1 x 0.81/(10−1)
    = 0.81/9 = 0.09 ohm
