an amoeba is placed in a jar at noon. it splits into two amoebas at midnight. this process repeats every 12 hours for each amoeba in the jar. how long (in days) will it take to have 1000 amoebas or more?

Since the amoeba population doubles every 12 hours. Time taken to reach 1000 individuals-

(12x no of divisions)

No. of divisions = x

2^x = 1000

Therefore x =9.97

Time taken =12x9.97 =119.64 hours (approx) = 5 days (approx)
