Given :

Mass of water having 0°C temperature (m₁) = 20 g

Mass of water having 10°C temperature (m₂) = 40 g

To Find :

Final temperature of the mixture

Solution :

The final temperature of the mixture when an amount of water of mass 20g at 0°C is mixed with 40g of water at 10°C

Final Temperature (T) = \frac{m_1T_1 + m_1T_2}{m_1 + m_2}

Here, m₁ = 20 g; m₂ = 40 g; T₁ = 0° C; T₂ = 10° C

Final Temperature (T) = \frac{m_1T_1 + m_1T_2}{m_1 + m_2}

                                    = \frac{20*0 + 40*10}{20 + 40}

                                    = \frac{400}{60}

                                    = 6.67° C

Therefore, the final temperature of the mixture is 6.67° C.

The correct option is (b) 6.67°C
