Answer:

As with any group of friends, there are bound to be issues. Contrary to popular opinion, Yoko Ono (wife of John Lennon) isn't the sole reason behind their breakup.

Ever since the band started, John Lennon and Paul McCartney mostly wrote the songs, while George Harrison and Ringo didn't really get much artistic representation.

However, George Harrison soon shone as a songwriter and came up with songs on par with that of the Lennon-McCartney partnership.

George Harrison wanted to write and perform his songs. This is known through his interview with Cavett on his talk show. As he said on the interview, "I would've had to record about a 100 Beatles albums just to get out the tunes I had in 1965."

I think this anxiety to represent themselves individually is what led to the breakup along with John's addiction and Yoko's interference in their recording sessions.
