He saw through the window Maggie talking to Mrs. Joe and she was little raised from her pillow and the lamp was shining on her face. Maggie was talking and her expression was sad and tender and not bitter or pain. This gave him relief as he understood that Mrs. Joe is changing her character and in less than a week she will surely forgot to take Maggie to the poor house.
