first fall you Let A and B are two angles making a complementary angle pair and A is greater than 45º.

A + B = 90º

B = 90º − A

Therefore, B will be lesser than 45º.

or second

If angle is greater than 45 degree than it's complimentary angle is always less than 45 degree. As sum of given angle and complimentary is 90 degree.
x(x>45) + y = 90
y = 90 - x (x>45)
So y is always less than 90.
