An ant climbs up 12 m in a hour and the slips down 5 m in the alternate hour.Find the total time taken by the ant.

This means the ant is actually climbing only (12-5)m=7m in 2 hour.

So,in 2 hours,the ant climbs 7 m.

4 hours14 m;16 hours7×8=50 m.

Now,the distance left for the ant to climb is (63-56)m=7m.

We know that the ant climbs 12 m in an hour and then slips 5m in the next hour.(given)

So,the ant can climb 7m without slipping.Time it will be take=7/12 hour.

  \sf{12m = 1m}\\  \sf{1m =  \frac{1}{12} \: hour } \\  \sf{7m =  \frac{1}{12} \times 7 =  \frac{7}{12}   \: hour }

Converting 7/12 hour into minutes,(7/12)×60=35 minutes.(1 hr=60 min)

Total time taken=16 hours(For 56 m)+35 minutes(For 7 m)

Total time taken=16 hours 35 minutes.
