An ant starts at x = 20cm on a piece of graph paper and walks along the x axis to x = -20cm. It turns around and walks back to x = -10cm. What is the ant's displacement and total distance travelled? Explain your answer with proper reasoning?

Answer:

Distance travelled=50cm

Displacement=30cm

Explanation:

Forget the moving of ant in the negative direction of the graph. Just focus on the total distance travelled by it and calculating the Displacement..

•°• Total Distance travelled=20+20=40

& also coming 10cm back=>40+10=50cm

Displacement= final position – initial position

=>50–20

=30cm
