The ant travels a distance of 8 cm in a straight line from p to q and then moves 6 cm perpendicularly to the line pq.

Then the resultant displacement of the ant from p is the hypotenuse of the right angled triangle that is created by this movement.

Therefore, as per the mathematical formula, hypotenuse2 = 82 + 62 = 100.

Hence, the displacement of the ant = √100 = 10 cm, which is the longest side of a triangle.

Assume a Right angle triangle with base 8 cm and height 6 cm

Then the resultant displacement will be equal to

√ ( 8 square + 6 square )

√ ( 64 + 36 )

√100

= 10 cm

THE RESULTANT DISPLACEMENT WILL BE 10 cm
