An ant travels a distance of 8 cm from p to q and then moves a distance of 6 cm at right angles to pq. What is the distance

Then at P it moves 6 cm to QP at right angle.

So, if you make a diagram, you will notice that a right angle will be formed if you draw a line.

Displacement is the shortest distance between two points.

So, the shortest path is the hypotenuse of the triangle.

Using Pythagoras theorem,

Legs are 8 cm and 6 cm.

8^2 + 6^2 = 64 + 36 = 100

Square root of 100 = 10

So, the displacement should be 10 cm.
