Antacids neutralise the acid made by your stomach. They are commonly used in conditions where it is helpful to neutralise the acid made in the stomach.

An antacid has base in it. As we know when acid and base react salt and water is formed and this reaction is known as neutralisation reaction. So an antacid is used to neutralise acid.

For ex.
Magnesium oxide commonly knowm as milk of magnesia is used as an antacid which when enters stomach neutralises excess hydrochloridc acid due to which acidity occurs.
