first molar mass of ch3o which is 31

Divide the mm by the ratio of 1:3:1

1/5*31=6.2

3/5*31=18.6

1/5*31=6.2

Then afterwards you divided the 62g/mol by the ratio 1:3:1 . (Sum of this ratio is 5)

1/5*62=12.4

3/5*62=37.2

1/5*62=12.4

Then after this divide by the by the smallest mass of the empirical formula

You get the molecular formula c2h6o2

Empirical formula mass = 12+3+16 = 31

Molecular mass = 62

Hence

n = Molecular mass/Empirical formula mass

n = 62/31

n = 2

Hence

Molecular formula = (Empirical formula)*2

Molecular formula = (CH₃O) * 2

Molecular formula = C₂H₆O₂
