The drug was really the Pencillin - antibiotic - which kills bacteria and cures infections. Alexander Fleming discovered that drug in 1928 accidentally.
Fleming was Scottish and a biologist. He got the Nobel prize for this discovery.
In 1944 it was mass produced and used to treat the wounded American soldiers .
