Given  : An appliance repair shop can repair at least 5 electric fans, at most 12 washing machines and at least 18 air conditioning unit. The store employs two part – time repairmen. Repairman A can repair 3 electric fans, 1 washing machines, and 4 air conditioning units in a week, while Repairman B can repair 1 electric fan, 3 washing machines and 6 air conditioning units in a week. Repairman A is paid Php 5,000 a week and repairman B is paid Php 4,200 a week.

To Find : To minimize cost how many weeks should each of the two repairmen be employed?

Solution:

. Repairman A  for A weeks  & B for B weeks

Cost = 5000A  + 4200B

3A + B  ≥ 5

A + 3B  ≤ 12

4A + 6B  ≥ 18

=> 2A + 3B  ≥ 9

A = 1   B = 3   => Cost  = 17600

A  = 2 , B = 2    =>    Cost = 18400

A = 3  ,  B  = 1   => Cost  = 19200

A = 4    B = 1   =>  Cost  = 24200

A = 5     B = 0  => Cost = 25000

Minimum cost =  A = 1   B = 3   => Cost  = 17600
