in a manner similar to the method we used to solve distance, speed, and time
problems. Work = Rate x Time. Suppose you can finish a report in 2 hours. Your
classmate can finish the same report in 4 hours. How long will it take to finish the
report if both of you work together? We have a saying that Two heads are better
than one', would you rather work alone or with a team? Why?​

Given :  you can finish a report in 2 hours. Your  classmate can finish the same report in 4 hours

To Find : How long will it take to finish the  report if both of you work together?

Solution:

Finish report in 2 hrs

Work done in 1hr  = 1/2

finish the same report in 4 hours

=> work done in 1 hr = 1/4

Work done by together in 1hr = 1/2 + 1/4

= 3/4

Time taken to complete work = 1/(3/4)  = 4/3 hr

= 1 hr  20 mins
