an aquarium filled with water has a flat glass sides whose index of refraction is 1.54. A Beam light from outside the aquarium strikes the glass at a 43.5 degrees angle to the perpendicular. what is the angle of this light ray when it enters (a)the glass, and then( b) the water?

Solving: Refraction of light

Answer:

apply snells law na sinA = nb sin B

where A is angle of incidence, B is angle of Refraction

na and nb are refractive index

so here for part A:

1* sin 43.5 = 1.58* sin B

sin B = 0.43566

B = angle of refraction = 25.82 deg

--------------------------------------------------------

for glass water interface

again sin B = 1.56 * sin 25.82/1.33

sin B = 0,.511

B = 30.73 deg

-----------------------------------------

if it entered directly

sin B = 1* sin 43.5/1.33

sin B = 0.51755

B = 31.168 deg
