We are told that the base, the side faces and the back side are to be covered by colour paper

Area of base = lb = 80 x 30 = 2400
Area of side face = bh = 30 x 40 = 1200
Area of back face = lh = 80 x 40 = 3200

Therefore area of paper required for covering = Area of base + Area of 2 side faces + Area of back face

= 2400 + 2(1200) + 3200

= 2400 + 2400 + 3200

= 4800 + 3200

= 8000
