Given that 1000 soldiers have enough food for 180 days.

Hence After 20 days, the remaining food is sufficient for 180 - 20 = 160 days.

Given Remaining soldiers after 20 days = 1000 + 600 = 1600.

Let the remaining food be x.

1000 : 1600 :: x : 160

1000 * 160 = 1600x

160000 = 1600x

x = 100 days.

The remaining food lasts for 100 days.

NirvikRoy2004: So sidhart ,the ration for 1000 soldiers is already given as 180 days....
siddhartharao77: Yes
NirvikRoy2004: ....so why it is asumed as "x"
siddhartharao77: That is for the remaining ration
NirvikRoy2004: Means tough 1000 soldier's ration is 180 yet it is holded as "x"
NirvikRoy2004: But 180 is already given....
siddhartharao77: Let the remaining ration food is sufficient for 1000 soldiers for x days.
