the total number of soldiers in the arrangement is (no. of rows)*(no. of columns)
and the remaining soldiers+the soldiers in this formation=6455(given)..
the equation according to the problem is:
x^2+55=6455 (where x is the no. of rows..)
so, x^2=6400
x=80 is the required answer..

Answer:

Total number of soldiers=6455

Number of soldiers left out =55

Let the number of rows =x

Let the number of columns =x

Number of soldiers remained=6455−55

=6400

Now,

x2 =6400

=>x= √6400

=>x=80

Number of columns and number of rows =80
