An article is listed at 900 rupees and two successive discounts of 8% and 8% are given on it. How much would the seller gain or lose, if he gives a single discount of 16%, instead of two discounts ?​

S.P. of the article when two successive discounts of 8% each are given = 84% of 900 rupees

= 756 rupees.

S.P. of the article when a single discount of 16% is given = 84 % of 900 rupees

= 756 rupees.

Therefore, in the second case, the seller would lose = 761.76 – 756 = 5.76.

The seller would loose 5.76 rupees.
