I am an Indian by birth, so I love India more than any other country of the world. I am proud of my country. I jealously guard the honour of my country. I am prepared at all times to sacrifice my all at its altar. It is the cradle of civilization.

Indian civilization and culture are the oldest in the world. The Vedas are the best and oldest books in the library of the world. It has given birth to great prophets like Ram, Krishna, Buddha and Nanak.

From time immemorial, we have preached peace and non-violence in thought, word and deed. India's policy has always been, 'live and let live'. In our long history, we have never waged aggressive wars.

This is a wonderful country. How many great men have taken birth in our land? What great truths have found utterance here? What great austerities have been performed? From what a variety of standpoints has religion been studied? And how many solutions to the mystery of life have been found in this land?

The country is just like a fort. On the North, it is bounded by the impassable Himalayas and on the other three sides, by the Ocean. India is a vast country. It has many states in it. Different states have different dresses, food, climate, behavior , health, etc., but a bond of unity and oneness runs under all this diversity. From North to South and West to East, there is one culture, one soul and one heart.

Every state has its own novelties and peculiarities. Some states exhibit art and craft; some present ancient buildings and gardens; some are famous for their temples while others are known for fairs, beauty spots and rivers.

India has seen the rise and fall of many kings and kingdoms. It was at first ruled by the Hindus, then by the Mughals and the Sikhs. Then it fell into the hands of the English. We won freedom on August 15, 1947.

Hundreds of young men and women laid down their lives to wrest freedom from the unwilling hands of the British. Mahatma Gandhi, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Ganga DharTilak, Pt. Nehru and S. Bhagat Singh were the foremost leaders of the freedom movement in the country.

They bore untold sufferings and made great sacrifices to win freedom for their country. They lived, worked and died for their country. By their golden deeds and great sacrifices, they have made themselves immortal in the history of India. Their noble examples shall continue to inspire the coming generations.

We have our own national flag. At the call of the nation, we rally round it. It is the symbol of our national solidarity. It consists of three stripes of three different colours. At the top, the saffron colour stands for sacrifice, the white colour in the centre denotes truth and purity.

The bottom green colour represents prosperity. A wheel of a dark blue colour in the centre signifies continuous movement and progress. It tells us that movement is life and stagnation is death.

This flag is our pride and pleasure. Every Indian is prepared to shed every drop of his or her blood to save the honour of the national flag of the country.

Independent India saw Jawaharlal Nehru as the First Prime Minister. Soon after independence we have seen several five year plans which have been instrumental in making our nation a strong one. We have signed several treaties with our neighbouring countries abroad.

The Panchsheel agreement, the Non Aligned Meet Summit, and above all the Common Wealth Heads of Government Meet are just a few to be mentioned.

The twenty first century has seen India's role in the development of Science and Technology, in combating nuclear war fare and above all our rapid strides in Defense have helped us to come into the vision of the global mainstream of life.

Apart from internal and external disturbances our country has been able to highlight the grim side of terrorism. India has seen a panorama of races of religious mix ups and the institutions of education have given opportunities for the people of other nations to be a part of this elitist nation.
