Distance covered = 700 π m and Displacement covered = 200 m

Explanation:

Given, time = 2 min 20 sec

                   = 2*60 +20

                   = 140 sec

diameter = 200 m

radius = 100 m

For one complete round, time taken = 40 sec

so in given time 140 sec athlete completes 3 and half rounds ( as 40 sec for one round)

Distance covered = distance along the circumference of the circle

circumference of circle = 2 π r

Distance covered = 2 π r * 3 +  π r

                              =  7 π r

                              = 700 π m

Displacement covered = shortest path covered

                                       = 0 + 2 r   ( displacement around a circle is zero)

                                       = 200 m
