Given,

The circumference of the circular track = 100 metres

The total time taken by the athlete = 20 seconds

To find,

The diameter of the given track and the speed of the athlete.

Solution,

Let,the radius of the given circular track = r metre

(Assume, r as a variable to do the further mathematical calculations.)

So,the circumference of the track = 2πr metres

Now,if we compare the values of circumference is that we have calculated and the is given in the question then we will get the following mathematical equation,

2πr = 100

r = 100 × ½ × 7/22

r = 700/44

r = 15.9 (approx.)

Diameter of the track = 2 × radius = 2×15.9 = 31.8 metres

The length of two rounds = 2×100 = 200 metres

The athlete runs in 20 seconds = 200 metres

The athelete runs in 1 second = 10 metre

Speed of the athlete = 10 metre/second

Hence,the diameter of the track is 31.8 metres and the speed of the athelete is 10 metre/second.
