An atom consists of of particles called electron and proton. Each proton has a charge of +1 and electron has of -1 . If
the electron = proton . What will be the charge of an atom if it loses an electron ?

actual charges
∴ n(p⁺)×1=n(e⁻)×(-1)
⇒n(p⁺)=-n(e⁻)
⇒n(p⁺)+n(e⁻)=0
⇒n(p⁺)+n(e⁻)-e⁻=-e⁻
⇒n(p⁺)+n(e⁻)-e⁻=-(-1)
⇒n(p⁺)+n(e⁻)-e⁻=(+1)
if there was one electron less then the atoms charge would have been ⁺¹
