Atoms are electrically neutral because they have equal numbers of protons (positively charged) and electrons (negatively charged). If an atom gains or loses one or more electrons, it becomes an ion. If it gains one or more electrons, it now carries a net negative charge, and is thus "anionic.

An atom is electrically neutral

Explanation:

  • Atoms are electrically neutral as the number if the proton is equal to number of neutron
  • Therefore the charge of positive and negative are cancelled out.
  • Some number of the proton are isotope .
  • If the species have been charged then it is called cation that is positively charged and anions that are negatively charged.
  • Atoms are made up of three sub atoms neutron, electron and protons.
