Atoms are electrically neutralbecause they have equal numbers of protons (positively charged) and electrons (negatively charged). If an atom gains or loses one or more electrons, it becomes an ion.

Required Answer:-

Nature has created these elements regardless of their stability. The atoms of these elements gain/loss/share electrons in order to complete their duplet/octet configuration to remain stable.

Reason why an atom is naturally electrically neutral?

  • Normally, An atom have equal number of positive charges and negative charges which adds up and cancel each other.
  • That is, they have the same number of electrons and protons inside the atom.
  • The net charge of a neutral atom hence is 0.

Let's understand this as an example. Oxygen atom have 8 protons inside the nucleus and 8 electrons revolving around it. Hence, it is electrically neutral.

But it have to gain 2 more electrons to complete its octet configuration and for becoming stable in nature. It hence forms an anion. Refer to the attachment.
