An atom X that has 12 protons and 12 electrons, loses two electrons to form an ion. What will be the charge on the ion? What will be the number of protons and electrons in the ion? Mention the valency and valence electrons of the atom X .

  • Charge on ion is two unit positive charge.
  • No. of proton = 12
  • No. of electron = 10
  • Valency = 2
  • Valence electron = 12

Explanation:

atom X has 12protons and 12electrons.

if it loses 2electrons then the atom has 10electrons only.. as it loses 2e-

it gets +2 charge...

so the no of electrons are 10and no of protons 12

when it loses 2e- it attains stable electronic configuration of neon.

so the no of valence electrons are 2.
