Answer:During any reaction, the no.of electrons changes while the protons do not. So an atom maintains its properties throughout the physical and chemical changes.

For example,a price of iron had the property of being attracted towards a magnet. If it's broken down into smaller pieces ,the smallest particle that is the atom of iron will retain the property of an atom. It means, it will still be attracted towards a magnet.
