Given that amount of trash thrown away by an average person in the United States = 4.5 \times 10^2 grams

Number of people in year 2013 in United States = 3.2 \times 10^6

Now we have to find about how many grams of trash were thrown away in the United States in 2013.

To find that we just need to multiply amount of trash thrown away by 1 person by total number of people

(4.5 \times 10^2 )(3.2 \times 10^6)

=(4.5*3.2) \times 10^{2+6}

=14.4 \times 10^{2+6}

=14.4 \times 10^8

Hence final answer is  14.4 \times 10^8 grams.
