an echo returned in 3s. what is the distance of the reflecting surface from the source, given that the speed of sound is 342ms-1

342*3=1026÷2=513mts is answer

D= vt/
D= 342*3/2
=171*3
= 513 m.

Aakshi971: The question says echo , that the sound wave first travelled distance D, striked a surface (got reflected ) and travelled along the same distance D back . Therefore total distance travelled by sound wave = 2D
